Sister Rosetta Tharpe
As part of Black History Month, Year 4 have learnt about Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the Godmother of Rock and Roll! We learnt about her life, how she was a pioneer in music and a major influence on most musicians today. We also watched a video of her performing in Manchester at Wilbraham Road train station in 1964! The link to the video is below:

Finally, we sang a song of Rosetta's called 'This Train.' Aaleyah thought that the song was about Jesus and calling people to follow him on his 'train', what do you think? Here's an example of a verse:
'This train is a clean train, you know, this train
This train is a clean train, I said, this train
This train is a clean train, everybody riding in Jesus' name
This train is a clean train, I said, this train'
In April 2018, 80 years after she recorded her first songs, Sister Rosetta was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
