Welcome to year 6
Hello and welcome to the year 6 class page. My name is Mr Calderbank and I am looking forward to being your class teacher for this exciting and challenging year. Mrs Williamson will be providing catch up sessions to get us ready for SATs at the end of the year! Miss McRoy will also be with us to support and help with our learning.
Please keep checking our class page for important upcoming events and useful information. We will also keep you up to date with the children's learning journey by sharing photographs. In addition to this, we will provide useful links to enable you to support your child's learning at home.
The knowledge organisers will give you an idea about what your child will be learning in each subject. This provides a great way to have a discussion with your child about what they are learning.
Long Term Plan Year 6
Homework
Children will be expected to practise their times tables and spellings each week as well as reading at least 3 times. In addition to this, as the SATs approach, year 6 children may receive additional homework to help them prepare.
Reading
Please ensure your child reads regularly (at least 3 times a week). That may be a school book, a book from home, activities on reading plus or any other forms or reading they enjoy. Please record reading activities on GoRead using your personal log-ins.
Times tables
Please use TT Rockstars to practise times tables. By year 6 all children should know all times tables fluently. Children will complete a times tables test each Friday.
Spellings
15 spellings will be sent home on Mondays every 2 weeks linked to the y5-6 spelling list. Please practise these with your child. They will be tested every 2 weeks.
PE
PE lesson will be from 2-3 on Mondays.
Forest Schools will be from 2-3 on Fridays.
Children may come to school and stay in their PE kit on those days. PE kit is a plain white T-shirt and black/navy shorts. In colder weather children may wear plain dark tracksuit bottoms and top.
