Hello and welcome to our year 1 class page!

My name is Miss Bradshaw and I have the great pleasure of teaching Year 1 again this year. I am looking forward to an exciting year of learning with the children supported by Miss Riley and Mrs Brooks (Teaching Assistants). Mrs Williamson will also be teaching in Year 1 all day Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

On this page you will find lots of information and pictures of the exciting things that we have been doing in class. It will also be updated regularly with class news and links to websites that you may find helpful to support your child's learning.

Should you have any questions, worries or concerns, please come and see me or email me. I look forward to working in partnership with you to help your child achieve their full potential.

Reading Update:

READING UPDATE YEAR 1

Important information:

Gates: Year 1 children and families will enter and exit the school grounds from the zebra crossing gate. This is to help prevent overcrowding on school grounds. Year 1 children will enter and exit school through the year 1 classroom door.

School day: Magic Breakfast will be available from 8:30am. Registration takes place at 8:55 am. Year 1's school day will finish at 3:00 pm. Parents/carers are asked to line up on the 'footsteps' outside of the year 1 classroom door to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Snack: Toast and juice will not be available at breaktime at the moment. It is advisable that your child brings a healthy snack to school every day along with a water bottle with their name on.

P.E: Year 1 will have P.E. lessons every Monday afternoon. Your child should come to school dressed in their PE kit on this day. Currently, PE will take place outside so children should wear something to keep them warm. Children may wear jogging bottoms or leggings and a tracksuit top. These must be plain black or navy.

Forest School: This year, Year 1 will have the oppurtunity to take part in Forest School every Thursday afternoon. Children should come to school dressed in suitable outdoor clothing on this day. We will be outside whatever the weather so waterproof clothing and wellies are recommended!

Homework

Children and their parents/carers are asked to commit to the 'power of three' homework pledge. This involved children learning their weekly spellings, accessing Numbots online* and reading at home at least three times per week.

*Your child will be given a Numbots login during the Autumn term.

Reading: Please support your child to develop their reading skills by hearing your child read at least three times per week. Talk about the book with them and ask questions to develop their understanding. Please ensure you sign your child's reading record in order for your child to be entered into our weekly reading raffle.

Spellings: Spellings will be sent home every Monday and will be tested every Friday. Your child's spellings will link to the phonics sounds that they have learnt in previous weeks.
