Welcome to Year Six!

Welcome to Year 6! We are really looking forward to this year in class and have a lot of fun things planned for the year ahead. Keep checking this page to find out what your children are currently learning about in school, and any important dates and events that you need to know about.

Mrs Peake, Mrs Abbey, Miss McRoy

English

In our Reading and Writing sessions this term we will be using the well known classic, The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle, as the basis for our work. This book ties in with our History topic, The Victorians, and will help us as we write character and setting descriptions, and our very own detective story. As we get closer to Halloween, we will be using the video short, Alma, to inspire our own spooky stories.

Maths

Our maths this half term will be looking at place value. We will be embedding the children's knowledge and understanding of how to read, round and sequence numbers as well as revsiting the four maths operations and how to use them to perform calculations. Each week the children will take an arithmetic test which will help to prepare them for the upcoming SATs. We also encourage regular practice of times tables at school and at home as these will really help the children to form a good base for all of their maths.
