In our Reading and Writing sessions this term we will be using a variety of text types, videos and genres to inspire our writing. We will be starting by using the video, 'The Lighthouse', to write a newspaper report before moving on to looking at 'Eye of the Storm' to tell a story from the character's perspective. After February half term we will be using our history and geography topic, 'The Local Area' to inspire our reading and writing work. We are also going to continue to focus on the use of dictionaries to improve our vocabulary choice and will be embedding the grammar we have been taught in previous years - the children are tested every Friday in preparation for SATs.

Our reading and comprehension sessions will continue on a daily basis - our book for the term is Mortal Chaos - this book consists of many different stories that are all linked by the butterfly effect. We will continue to use Reading Plus every day. We will be particularly focusing on inference and author vocabulary choice during our reading sessions.

In our maths lessons this half term will be looking at fractions. We will also be embedding the children's knowledge and understanding of how to read, round and sequence numbers, perform calculations with decimal numbers, and revisit the four maths operations and how to use them to perform calculations. Each week the children will take an arithmetic test which will help to prepare them for the upcoming SATs. We also encourage regular practice of times tables at school and at home as these will really help the children to form a good base for all of their maths. Our booster sessions will run every Tuesday and Thursday and we would love for all children to attend.

Winter Warmer Project

On Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th January, we continued our work with Active Hope. On the first day we spent our time at the Smile Centre taking part in loads of fun activities including wild cooking, spider web and crane. On the Thursday, we went to Spud Wood in Lymm. It was absolutely freezing but not one of us complained about the rain. Or the wind. Or the hail. Or the sun. Or the thunder and lightning! After a tiring morning den building, we went back to the Smile Centre and had a chippy munch. Have a look at the photographs to see some of the things we did.

Safety Central

Our trip to Safety Central in Lymm was 'the best trip out ever' according to Year 6. We spent the day learning how to keep ourselves safe at home, on the roads, near water, at train stations, on the farm and in the garden. We also learnt first aid and how to make sure we look after our own wellbeing. Every one of us had a fantastic day and at the end of the day we scored 100% on the test! Have a look at the pictures to see just how amazing Safety Central is!
