Our class teacher is Miss Bradshaw and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Wright. Mrs Mather also comes in to our class every Thursday to help.

Spring Term

Happy New Year everyone smiley

It is going to be another busy and exciting term for year 4!

Our history topic this term is, “Why did the Romans want to spread their Empire?”

We are also looking forward to our trip to the Dewa Roman Experience on Thursday 8th February 2018 (see letter below). More information about where we are going can be found here: http://www.dewaromanexperience.co.uk/

For the first three weeks in Maths, we will be continuing to learn about multiplication and division. We will then move on to explore fractions. Throughout all of our topics, we will be developing our reasoning and problem solving skills.

We will continue to learn and practice our mental maths and times table skills. It is very important in year 4 that all of the children learn their times tables up to 12 x 12. A really good website for times tables games is www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games

In English, we will be writing a biography about our class author, Michael Morpurgo.

We will then be reading and exploring 'Mr Stink by David Walliams.' Firstly, we are going to be writing diary entries from Chloe's point of view.

Year 4 have recently started using Reading Plus software on the Ipads to improve their reading fluency and comprehension skills. Children can log on to this at home; www.student.readingplus.com

In Science, the children will be learning about states of matter: solids, liquids and gases. This will include heating and cooling and the part played by evaporation and condensation in the water cycle.

Our Come and See topics this term are Community, Giving and Receiving and Self-Discipline.

The children will continue to develop their musical skills in the weekly keyboard lessons.

Please have a look at our Spring Curriculum Map below.

Some things to remember...

PE –Tuesdays – please can children have full kits in school. White t-shirts, black shorts and black pumps; earrings are not allowed to be worn for P.E. Please ensure that every item of your child’s clothing has their name on it, to avoid any confusion on P.E. days.

Spellings will be sent home on a Monday to practice and a test will be done on the following Friday.

Homework will alternate between Maths and English each week. It will be given out on a Friday and is to be returned by the following Wednesday. Please complete all homework in blue pen or pencil.

Reading is an ongoing task and you should aim to read with your child at least 5 times every week. Pleasure ensure your child’s reading book and record is sent into school regularly to be checked. Reading books will be changed every Friday and more frequent if required.

Class trip to Roman Dewa Experience

On 8th February 2018, Year 4 will visit the Roman Dewa Experience in Chester as part of their topic learning. Please find a letter attached for further details.
