Welcome to Year Four!

Our class teacher is Miss Bradshaw and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Wright.

Autumn Term

It is going to be a very busy and exciting term for year 4!

Our topic this term is, “Are we still in Europe?” The children are going to be utilising their geography skills to name and locate key European countries.

For the first four weeks in Maths, we will be focusing on the place value of four digit numbers. We will also be developing our reasoning and problem solving skills.

We will continue to learn and practice our mental maths and times table skills. It is very important in year 4 that all of the children learn their times tables up to 12 x 12.

In English, we will be reading and exploring 'The BFG by Roald Dahl.' Firstly, we are going to be writing diary entries from Sophie's point of view.

In Science, the children will be learning about living things and their habitats. This will include grouping and classifying living things and looking at what affects living things in the local environment.

Our Come and See topics this term are People, Called and Gift.

The children will continue to develop their musical skills in the weekly keyboard lessons.

Some things to remember:

PE –Tuesdays and Wednesdays – please can children have full kits in school. White t-shirts, black shorts and black pumps; earrings are not allowed to be worn for P.E. Please ensure that every item of your child’s clothing has their name on it, to avoid any confusion on P.E. days.

Spellings will be sent home on a Monday to practice and a test will be done on the following Friday.

Homework will alternate between Maths and English each week. It will be given out on a Friday and is to be returned by the following Wednesday. Please complete all homework in blue pen or pencil.

Reading is an ongoing task and you should aim to read with your child at least 5 times every week. Pleasure ensure your child’s reading book and record is sent into school regularly to be checked. Reading books will be changed every Friday and more frequent if required.

Class trip to Chester Zoo

On 15th November 2017, Year 4 will visit Chester Zoo as part of their science learning. Please find a letter attached for further details.
